BSL Breaks up families!

I was at an adoption event this past weekend for the rescue we foster pit bulls through. I was approached by a woman who was looking for some help. It seems her sister and family (husband and 6 kids) are being forced by a local ordinance in the city of Walton Kentucky to get rid of their family pet by November 6Th. They are distraught, especially the kids as this pit bull is their baby. Rudy (pictured) is an awesome dog who lives peacefully with a cat and just loves everyone.

These ordinances, which are supposed to "protect the public" just end up targeting law abiding people. They do nothing to stamp out dog fighting or prosecute irresponsible owners. As a matter of fact, they wouldn't even be having this problem if they HAD broken the law and not licensed Rudy, or if they had listed him as another breed of dog. How's that for irony?

Another sad part about this situation is there is no BSL in our county of Boone. This is a flaky local ordinance!

So I am involved in helping them out. We have a local group B.A.R.K. that is going to look into it with help of a local attorney who happens to be a member and a pit bull owner. If we cannot keep Rudy with the family we will work towards finding him a good home. The family has asked me to assist with home placement and evaluation as I have experience with that as a pit bull foster parent.

I will keep updating on this situation.

Burt
